John MacLeod

For the last 25 years, John has worked making technology available and accessible to the community through his non-profit New Media Learning.  His startup tech background with Autodesk helped him understand the power these tools have for people to create the future. He worked with Sara Jones, President of CALIFA, and head of the Marin County Free Library to create the Marinovation Learning Center. This community partnership has a library branch, MAKERSPACE, Media Studio and XRMARIN, a VR /AR learning lab. John started XRLibraries in 2016 to begin installing virtual and augmented reality programming in libraries. He coordinates the California Virtual Reality Experience Grant for State Librarian Greg Lucas and CALIFA. 200 VR systems have been installed in underserved libraries, making this the largest VR installation in public library networks. He is also working with Tammy Westergard, coordinating the Nevada VR Pilot program. John continues to build a national clearinghouse for libraries to share best practices in the use of XR technologies in libraries.
