Marin County Free Library
Director
Archives and Public Records Administrator from 2001 - 2007
President of Califa
Director, Marin County Free Library

Sara Jones joined the Marin County Free Library system as Director in July of 2014. Her focus has been in making the library a critical resource to improve student achievement to underserved communities in Marin County, especially through deployment of advanced technology using augmented, mixed and virtual reality tools and content. Inf fact through Sara’s generosity and commitment to kids, this nationally award winning work (with the Califa Group and XRLibraries) has helped Nevada deploy similar resources to 13 Nevada library systems.

Sara has 30 years’ experience administering libraries, including the Carson City Library where she also brought innovation, technology improvements and a focus on education. She was Nevada’s State Librarian and Administrator of the Nevada State Library and Archives from 2001-2007. In 2003, Sara helped compile the Nevada Library Trustee’s Manual upon which the foundation of these training modules is constructed. During that time, Washoe County Library Trustee Keith Lockard and then Las Vegas-Clark County Library Administrator Ann Langevin also reviewed the publication and lent their expertise and insights to assure the quality of the resource. Also former State Library and Archives Administrator Joan G. Kerschner reviewed every page and added text to illuminate legal responsibilities and to answer questions most frequently asked by Nevada Library Trustees and Directors. Like the handbook, this training and materials are prepared as an educational resource and should not replace legal advice
